Defining indulgence, ice cream is a favourite dessert for many, but the traditional recipes use animal products such as milk, cream and even eggs. However, if you follow a plant-based diet and don’t want to give up on that nor the ice cream then here are some luscious plant-based ice cream recipes that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
This is a plant-based spin on the sinful chocolate ice cream that uses avocado and plant-based milk as a replacement to animal milk. The recipe requires 4 tablespoons of cocoa, 2 ripe avocados, half a cup of unsweetened almond or any other plant-based milk, 2 tablespoons of coconut butter or oil, 3-4 tablespoons of a sweetener of your choice, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Blend it all together or pour into an ice cream maker and freeze for about 3 hrs. Scoop it up and enjoy a delicious mouthful of this indulgent but healthy chocolate ice cream.
All you need is frozen bananas with a few tablespoons of plant-based milk, your preferred sweetener and a dash of vanilla extract. Blend it all together and freeze it. Steam and mash the sweet potato and add a few pitted dates, a frozen banana, 2 tablespoons of nut or seed butter, half a cup of coconut milk and spices such as cinnamon and ground ginger. You may also add cocoa as per your taste. Blend all these ingredients and freeze for a couple of hours before serving. Garnish it with nuts and enjoy scoopfuls of this unique comforting ice cream.
Turning breakfast into dessert, this recipe is a real delight. Toast oats with a pinch of salt in a dry pan over low to medium heat for 5 min, until they turn brown. Blend the oats and cool it before adding a few dates, 2 tablespoons of nut or seed butter, vanilla extract, a pinch of sea salt, and plant-based milk. Bend the mixture and add it to an ice cream machine or freeze it for 2 hrs before serving. Garnish it with nuts, seeds, toasted oats or granola and sink into the crunchy and creamy ice cream.

Add half cup of walnuts, half cup of maple syrup, a dash of vanilla extract and a cup of any plant-based milk and blend it together. Freeze the mixture for 3–4 hrs. For the sauce, add half a cup of maple syrup, some water, nut or seed butter and vanilla extract and add to a saucepan and heat for 5 min until it is thick. Pour this toffee-like sauce onto the nutty walnut ice cream and enjoy the warm fudgy goodness.
